  1. Where it grows

The highlands of Kiambu, Kenya, between 1,600 and 1,800 m. Nyota is a single-origin lot, and the name means star. In the cup it runs from red currant and citrus peel into a clean, structured finish. We roast it to keep that clarity.

  2. How it is processed

Fully washed: the fruit is taken off the bean before drying, so the cup carries the seed's own flavour and none from the fruit. The clean process leaves the acidity precise rather than sharp and the sweetness honeyed. That is the reason for the defined finish.

  3. How we roast it

An omni roast, Depth 38 on our scale: one profile, set to work as filter or as espresso. Red currant and citrus peel lead, with a honeyed sweetness behind. As filter, the clarity shows most plainly. As espresso, it turns fruit-forward, with a lively acidity over caramel depth.

Keep it

Seal the bag after every use and keep it cool, dry and dark. Not the fridge. Grind just before you brew, and drink it in the first weeks after the roast, while the fruit is bright.

05questions
What does Nyota mean?

Nyota means star. It is a single-origin washed coffee from the Kiambu highlands in Kenya, grown between 1,600 and 1,800 m.

Is it better as filter or espresso?

Filter is where the clarity shows most plainly: red currant, citrus peel, a honeyed sweetness. It is roasted as an omni, so it also pulls well as espresso, fruit-forward with caramel under a lively acidity.

Is it sour or sharp?

It has a real acidity. The washed process keeps it precise rather than sharp, and the sweetness is honeyed. If you want chocolate and nuts in the cup, take Dark Matter instead.

Which grind should I choose?

Pour-over or espresso, the two it is roasted for. At checkout you can also pick whole bean, home or commercial espresso, South Indian filter, AeroPress, moka pot, pour-over, Chemex, French press or cold brew. It comes in 250 g and 1 kg.

It says sold out. When is it back?

We do not give restock dates before a lot has landed. If the page shows Nyota as sold out, message us on WhatsApp and ask what is on the way.
