  1. Where it comes from

A washed base from Chikmagalur carries the structure. Arabica is layered in for body. A natural lot from Kaimara, also in Karnataka, adds the sweetness at the end. Washed lots give a clean frame and naturals give sweetness, and No. 02 is built so that each does its own job. It is a blend of two processes from two places.

  2. How we roast it

Depth 66, medium to medium dark. The aim is soft cocoa and gentle brown sugar over a full, rounded body, with acidity kept low to medium. We roast to order at our roastery in New Delhi.

  3. How it behaves

The House Series is built around routine, one new blend every fourth drop, and No. 02 builds on the first: fuller and smoother. It drinks black as readily as it holds its shape in milk, and it works on espresso, in a moka pot, a French press, a South Indian filter or a pour-over. It is not a bright coffee. If you want fruit and acidity, choose a lighter roast.

Ask us

05questions
Is it good for espresso?

Yes. It is a medium to medium dark blend at Depth 66, with soft cocoa, brown sugar and low to medium acidity. Start at 18 g in and 36 g out in about 28 seconds. If it tastes bitter, grind a little coarser or stop the shot earlier.

Does it work with milk?

Yes. It holds its shape in milk as readily as it drinks black, so the soft cocoa and brown sugar are still there in a flat white or a South Indian filter coffee.

Can I get it ground?

Yes. Choose the grind when you add it to the cart: whole bean, home or commercial espresso, South Indian filter, AeroPress, moka pot, pour-over, Chemex, French press or cold brew. Both 250 g and 1 kg come in every grind. We grind exactly what you choose and cannot un-grind it, so order whole bean if you are unsure.

How fresh will it be?

Roasted to order. Most orders leave us within 1–2 working days, up to 4 in a heavy roast week. Courier delivery usually takes 2–4 working days to the metros and 4–7 to the rest of India.

What if it is not for me?

If this is your first BROOT order and the coffee is not for you, tell us within 7 days of delivery and we will send a different coffee of the same size, once, at no charge. If a bag arrives damaged or wrong, tell us within 48 hours, with photos.
